Winter Rose

~Winter Rose

You are like sunshine after the storm
Fragile petals, like buttery tears, unfurl in the frigidity of the gloom
You are  a warm smile in sorrow
Sunrise unfolding from night
A shaft of light at the end of a dark tunnel
Giving hope to sadness
You are a candle in the dark
You dont give up
You are a quiet peace in the howling gale and pummeling blows
The seething rain hammers down
Like hundreds of icey needles stinging butterfly wings
And still you bloom
Like a fiery beacon
Lighting the way
Your spikey stem stands tall and straight
As if daring the battering wind to take you
To beat you
And then in the next whipping gust
As if the elements are your master
You bend and you bow
Appearing to finally accept your fate
Yet once again in the calm
You stand tall in glowing defiance
And turn your face triumphantly to the steely skies
Searching for Gods golden eye
Your thorny spirit never dies
