The vital spark

Your life just smoulders like a small piece of coal.

And into air silently your low spirits flow.

Your smile is lost and life is draped in grey.

The tears in your eyes mean words too deep to say.

Long years, trying to survive,

catching at a straw to stay alive,

and sliding down on a steep slope,

you say, "While there is life, there is hope".

Now walking desperate through home stretch,

drowned deeply in desolated thoughts;

when summer days have fled

and cold winds are blowing;

skies get heavy, grey, and days so lonely and dark,

you keep on dreaming of the real vital spark.

And now, when the band begins to play;

shadows of your dim future blight your present-day;

life beats you with a heavy hand;

you strive to stay the course to save the day;

you still go on, worn-out but stark,

and keep on longing for the real vital spark.
