Mutely standing by

The benevolent sun was burning bright And the street was stunned with a sudden fright, The kid was lying in a pool of blood But the car did not stop, it went by splashing water and mud. People huddled around with their phones but none went near, Blood it is that these smart people might fear. No one dared to make a hue and cry, I was also there, just there, MUTELY STANDING BY. As the day retired and darkness descended with its splendor, A scream was heard from a distance but the sight was not so dear. The night remained a silent witness to the ruthless mockery of her chastity, And I valiantly offered a few teardrops with a sigh of pity. Her body was battered and face went dry, But I was present there, just there, MUTELY STANDING BY. The path was heading straight as if to embrace the sky’s horizon, The gusty wind was blowing in glee and trees swaying in unison. The little hands were tired after work, While the curios eyes reached out to be free; But freedom sits like a firefly in the dark, That, on seeing someone approach, gears up to flee. I have seen him work hard and heard his suppressed cry, But still I remained there, just there, MUTELY STANDING BY. The white attire of the speaker went well with the apparent purity of his speech, And the innocent cheer was radiating with reality flying out of their reach. New dreams were manufactured, new markets were created, But the consumers remained the same, as they were, when all of it was initiated. Their dreams survive as dreams and despair as their only friend, Knowingly they would tread the same path and name it as the usual trend. Even though the promises are broken, the hungry eyes never cease to pry, And I remain but a witness, just a witness, MUTELY STANDING BY. Change is the only thing that the entire world seems to dream, But they want to be trapped in slumber while the good times spread their regime. Who are they waiting for to ring the bell? Is it a Demon or some divine Angel? I have travelled across centuries and seen through millions of eyes, I have worshipped the eternal truth but lived only in lies. It is high time that I start dreaming, Instead of existing, let me start living. Let me vouch for what is rightfully mine, O lord! for one last time let me try. I will neither disappoint you nor give you any reason to chide, Today I will not remain silent, today I don’t have to hide. Before I meet my journey’s end, before I say good bye, I will speak and do whatever it takes instead of, MUTELY STANDING BY.
