A ‘fine’ fairy tale

Into the fiery gaping mouth I stare
a warrior of many battles
some won some lost, does it matter here?!
Quivering is the tip of my mighty sword held high
this thing is too damned heavy and long!

What a typical child's tale
an evil fire beast attacks
a kind brave knight stands forth of free will
armed with sword and magic elixirs
a princess anguishing for rescue by her truelove
and the end, undoubtedly happy

In reality...

Man is the only beast I know evil!
Murder is my kind trade
I just peed in my pants
If I do not fight I will be hanged
magic spellbound elixirs do not exist
A princess wouldn't even spit in my face
for fear my lowly face would defile it

and in the end...

I stand over a dead beast
A royal medal of valor I receive
with a humble pension
and with a soft pat on the back
the king shakes my badly burned hands

and finally...

I spend the rest of my days
a frail old man boasting
of long forgotten...
valor

'멋진 동화 한 편'

나는 화염의 주둥아리 속을 바라본다
많은 전투를 경험해온 용사이지만
많은 승리와 패배를 보아 왔지만
그것이 지금 무슨 소용 있을까?!
높이 든 나의 장엄한 검 많이도 흔들리는 구나
이 빌어먹을 것이 왜 이리 무겁고 긴 거야!

평범한 어린이 동화이구나
불을 내뽑는 악한 무시무시한 짐승 나타나자
착하고 용감무쌍한 기사가 자원하여 나선다
검과 마법의 묘약으로 무장한 체.
아리따운 공주는 사랑하는 기사가 구출해 주기를 애타게 기다린다.
그리고 끝에는 당연히 행복한 결말이다

하지만 현실은...

오직 인간만이 유일한 악한 짐승이다
살인이 나의 친절한 직업이다
방금 바지를 절였다
짐승과 싸우지 않으면 처형당한다
마법의 묘약은 존재 하지 않는다
공주는 내 얼굴에 침조차도 뱉지 않는다
미천한 나의 얼굴이 그녀의 순수한 침을 더럽힐까봐

결국에는...

나는 죽은 짐승 위에 선다
그리고 왕실의 명예 훈장을 받는다
소박한 연금과 함께
왕은 심하게 화상 입은 나의 손을 악수하며
수고했다고 나의 등을 살짝 두드린다

그리고 마지막에는...

나는 나의 나머지 나날들을
나약한 노인이 되어 자랑을 늘어놓는다
오랜 전 잊혀진...
명예를
