Colors

This purple necklace that you gave me

brands me as yours and yours alone.

Never mind that I wear it beneath my collar.

Blue bracelets that feel more like handcuffs

bind me to you forever.

It shouldn't matter that I hide them with my sleeves.

As you paint me every shade of red on the spectrum,

it becomes apparent to me

that I was born to be your canvas.

Your fingerprints on my rib cage

are like the boundary set for my heart,

reminding it never to stray too far from you.
