In My Room

In my room

In my room

where the darkness is complete

In my room

where she and I never meet

In my room

I watch as the door creaks wide

In my room

I see her terror from the outside

In my room

I watch as he approaches her bed

In my room

I’m safe as he reaches for her instead

In my room

I see her tremble deep inside

In my room

I know she has nowhere to hide

In my room

I see the blankets that are piled

In my room

I watch the suffering of the child

In my room

I watch the tears slide down her cheeks

In my room

I know about the emptiness she seeks

In my room

I silently watch the child at my feet

In my room

knowing that she and I will never meet

In my room

where the darkness is complete
