Awaken

In the darkness I explore the dying embers Of a fire long left to die out The flames lick at my skin but do not burn me Though I see others touched and scorched Mistaken in the idea that this is place of whispers The energy is coveted A heartbeat in the sand of time But it is my hand it reaches for I must be brave in this time of destiny When such a spirit is wittiness to my existence And the wings of star bound creatures endure the flames that truly burn When the two touch If I denounce the darkness I deny the light that is here I cancel the miracle of life I cry against the sky Instead I must Awaken
